WELCOME TO MY WEBSITE
I am currently the Head of Politics at Brighton College in East Sussex - having previously worked at a variety of schools and universities across the UK. I completed an MSc and PhD in History with the University of Edinburgh, an MEd and EdD in History Education with the Universities of Birmingham and Leicester, and an MA in Politics with Swansea University.
I have written widely on the political history of the United States and imperialism. I am the author of three books, numerous articles and book chapters, and co-edited the recent collections Sports and the American Presidency with Dr Rivers Gambrell (University of Oxford), and American Imperialism in the Long Nineteenth Century: A Documentary History, 1775-1919 with Drs Alys Beverton (Oxford Brookes), Alex Bryne (De Montfort) and Edd Mair (KCL).
I am a Fellow of the Royal Society of Arts, a Fellow of the Royal Historical Society, and a Senior Fellow of the Higher Education Academy (Advance HE).
I am a member of the British Association for American Studies' Executive Committee (Schools Lead), co-editing a newsletter aimed at A Level teachers with Dr Andrew Fearnley (University of Manchester), helping organise conferences and speakers for schools, and organising closer links between BAAS and secondary schools in general.
